Havana, the capital city of Cuba is one of the oldest cities in the Americas. The home of the Cuban government and many business headquarters, is also a popular holiday destination for tourists all over the world. The largest city in the Caribbean is a must-see for any visitor.
Havana is only 20 minutes from Guanabo. This is the main commercial, economic and communication center in Cuba due to its favored location in front of the Strait of Florida and to their magnificient bay. The city has emerged as an attractive tourists spot, supported by its history, existence of beaches, the architectural styles of the Old Havana and an incredible cultural blend. Old Havana, which is officially known as Havana Vieja was founded in 1519 in the natural harbor of the Bay of Havana. It was built in baroque and neoclassic style but, the city was destroyed by a French pirate, Jacques de Sores in 1555. The devastated city was once again restored with new walls, buildings and fortresses. Now, the Old Havana is the maximum exponent of the colonial architecture in Cuba. It is the biggest colonial center in the Caribbean. And in 1982, Old Havana, the city's historic center, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
