What is life without a little outdoor adventure? Reasonable and safe outdoor adventure trips for families with school-going children most definitely encompass camping trips and other scouting activities, like hiking and fishing. However time testifies to the fact that campouts have been on the top of the 'kiddie adventure list'. Summer vacations are looked forward to by school goers and parents alike but the long mundane days, after a while bring out the impatient wrath of these truly bored kids, which leaves the poor parents clueless about what to do to calm the situation. On the other hand, if a camping trip (especially for the summer holidays), is already planned out, parents will be able to canalize the bundles of pent up energy within their children in the most appropriate direction.
Moreover, summer vacations are a precious gift that families receive only once every year. These long, sunny days bring along with them the opportunity for every family to become a more close-knit unit, share each other's views about the most relevant and irrelevant issues on earth – this is the time to actually feel like a family (thanks to the awfully busy lives people these days have crafted for themselves). Vacations have this uncanny ability to slacken the pace of life to make it more relaxed and it gives most people a warm feeling inside.
Campouts play an instrumental role in building every child's character by instilling in them values of strength, perseverance, self-sufficiency, leadership and more. They get closer to the forces of nature and learn to appreciate its wonders. They also learn to adapt themselves to unfamiliar surroundings and develop survival instincts, which all prove to be highly beneficial in the long run. Camping trips are a great way to drag children out of their comfort zones and get them ready for the big bad world out there. Camping is not only about having fun. It is a lot more than just an adventure trip / vacation. Camping trips are also special because it is an activity that brings the family together like no other activity does. Every member whether the parent or the child has a unique role to play that cannot be traded. The wide array of activities that a campout offers range from being something really demanding, like hiking to something that can be child's play, like roasting hot dogs on a campfire. It is this balance of activities that never lets a dull moment seep into a camping adventure, whether it lasts for a week or even overnight. How much time you spend on your trip should in fact never be a yardstick to judge its success.
Your camping trip with your precious children doesn't have to be a long jaunt, it should just be enough to spend some time together, view nature's beauty and share a little of your knowledge and experience with the kids. Even though your kids might take time adjusting to and liking their surroundings, once they find that connection with nature, they certainly would not want to go back home.
When families go camping together, they discover wonderful things about each other. Rough and rugged camping adventures do have a soft and cozy corner and that softness lies in families taking the much needed and usually ignored initiative to familiarize with each other. It brings a golden opportunity for parents to share their past with their children and tell them about the roots of the family. This will then encourage your kids to open up and share their thoughts and feelings. It is worth taking this enriching journey under the stars. |
