No matter how many vacations you take, at some point of time, you do feel as if the vacations that you go to, especially to the big cities around the world have somehow become superficial and meaningless. This is the time when you need to evaluate your vacation options and set yourself up for an eco vacation. Ecotourism is a term that defines the trips or vacations that revolve around a place that is environmentally significant and has been designated as 'sensitive' by the environmental agencies.
Since the 1980s, the concept of ecotourism has been around with a handful of tourists practicing this form of travel preaching about the environment. However, in the year 2002, the United Nations declared it as a 'Year of Ecotourism' and that announcement propelled this long forgotten concept into overdrive. Some of the most appealing places for an eco-vacation are rainforests, habitats for endangered animals etc.
Ecotourism isn't all about visiting an ecologically special place and spending some time over there. There are various other forms of eco-tourism that can be followed so as to make your eco-vacation a collage of splendid memories, that would be equally enjoyable as any other metropolitan vacation. The primary reason of an eco-vacation is to make the tourists more familiar with the nature. Eco tourism serves two purposes at once. Firstly, it provides the tourists with a heavenly glimpse of nature and secondly, it limits the human impact on the environment to a bare minimum, thus preserving the fragile construction of our surroundings.
As of now, one of the most successful eco-tourism spots in this world is Arsal, Lebanon, that has served as a major eco-vacation spot for over ten years. The scope of ecotourism in Lebanon was planted and nourished by the Association for Rural Development in Arsal, a large village in Lebanon that serves as the focal point for the flourishing eco tourism in this part of the Middle East.
Another benefit of ecotourism is that, it helps provide employment and increased communication and interaction among the local population and the tourists. The prospect of eco tourism also brings closer the native people of a certain location to the centralized government and authorities that strive to promote such type of tourism practices. For instance, a location where an entire tribe is the occupant and the economic condition of those people isn't satisfactory, the eco-tourism to such a place turns to be a boon for these people. Not only does the tribal people get to know and understand different cultures and customs, but they also attain great monetary benefits due to the numerous job opportunities that arise with eco tourism. The new job openings, along with the international aid provided for the conservation of such a place, will greatly help elevate the standards of living for the local population. Local communities and the government are working together to provide better living standards and uplift the socio-economical status of the people living in these ecologically sensitive areas. At the same time, keeping the environment safe from further harm.
The sheer rise in eco tourism can be credited towards the ever increasing awareness of the environmental issues that are plaguing our planet. People have become much more concerned towards such topics and with remedial steps taken such as recycling and reducing vehicle emissions, eco tourism is also catching up fast. It is a noble step that is being adopted by numerous tourists worldwide and it needs to be carried forward, so as to lend a helping hand in the conservation of our environment. |
