Here's a brief overview on the unexplored tropical island of South Pacific nations that may help the discerning traveler to arrive at a more informed travel decision.
- Papua New Guinea is expected to have a 6 - 7% economic growth in 2009, inspite of the world financial crisis.
- The Solomon Islands are known for its huge population and high economic growth. The area witnessed an economic growth of over 10% in 2007. Experts believe it is strongly placed to continue this into 2009.
- Even though, it has been predicted that there may be a slowdown in the overall growth for Vanuatu in 2009, the tourism sector in the region is improving at a high rate. All thanks to the vast increase to air services from Pacific Blue, Air New Zealand, Solomon Airlines, Air Pacific and Air Vanuatu.
- Samoa is considered to be the only South Pacific nation that do not face social evils like corruption, poor leadership and instability. The primary reason behind this cause is the eleven year leadership of Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi. He has been able to single-handedly pushed these changes through parliament.
- The extreme cash flow problem of Niue has compelled New Zealand to advance $1 million for jet fuel, so that delegates can meet at the annual Pacific Islands Forum in Niue, in August 2008. However, the meeting never happened and Niue was left with a nasty problem of trying to get rid of a million dollars worth of jet fuel.
- With many years of financial disregard, the region of Nauru is still rescued by Australia, from bankruptcy, to the tune of around Au$1000 per capita each year into the island nation. Even regions like Fiji has promised to sign a regional air-services agreement with Nauru's national. To help them get over this financial crisis.
- In the last four years, the French Polynesia have been governed by 8 different authorities. Because of global financial crisis, the tourism sector could be in for a large decrease.
- With its two kings as co-rulers, Wallis and Futuna will experience little change in 2009.
- Palau may have difficulty meeting its 2009 budge, if the US$70 million aid is not forthcoming. Combined with the down turn in Japanese tourists, may push Palau to create its own financial strategies.
- The island of Marshall is hoping for some spin off from the US military base in Guam. Besides, the region is also facing extensive environmental and overcrowding issues.
These are some of the basic information on the exotic locations in South pacific. |
