Traveling by air with your pets is not a cakewalk. If you have to travel abroad and if you are so fond of your pets that you can't leave them behind alone, then you need to be very careful while traveling with your pets.
If you are planning to take your pets along with you in an airplane then you must take into consideration the following significant tips:
- Each airline has its own policies and restrictions for letting you travel with your pets. Before booking with an airline, you must know the rule and regulations that it has laid down for pets.
- The smaller animals like cats and dogs are usually allowed to accompany you in the cabin itself, provided that you are equipped with a special crate or a pet carrier. If an airline lets your pet travel with you in your compartment itself, then it will be better for you to book a window seat for yourself, otherwise your pet may be jostled around by other passengers getting up and down from their seats.
- The size and dimensions of the pet carriers also vary from one airline to the other. While buying a pet carrier, you should see whether it conforms to the size allowed by the airlines' policies. If you fail to do so, then you will find yourself in an undesirable position later on. You will have to look for last minute alternative arrangements at the airport.
- There may be somebody else also with a pet carrier in your flight. So in order to avoid confusions later, you should clearly label your pet's carrier. Make sure you provide all the relevant information with your pet's carrier including your name, your cell number, your address, your travel destination and your pet's name. Pet's gender, pet's age, pet's species, vet's name and vet's phone number should also be clearly mentioned. It will be better for you to mention any health conditions your pet has.
- Even if your trip is for a short duration, you should take along all the essential things that your pet may need during traveling. A portable water bowl, mini food dish and a pee pad are some of the essential items that you must not forget to pack along with you. Within short distance travel also, your pet may feel hungry or thirsty and you never know when the flight gets delayed due to any unfortunate reasons. Take a walk with your pet before the flight because it will be better if your pet does its nature needs before the flight.
- You should also fix an appointment with the vet because your pet will be allowed on the plane only if you have its health verification certificate. The vet will not only check up your pet, but will also verify whether your pet is up to date on the vaccinations or not. So visiting a vet is also an essential prerequisite before planning to travel with your pet.
- Once you are through with the traveling distance, you will need a hotel with pet accommodations. All the hotels don't have such facilities and it may be problematic for you later on. Hence you should make sure in advance that the place you are going to stay is equipped with such hotels that can accommodate your pet comfortably.
So, next time you make up your mind to take your pet along with you on a flight, you must keep in mind the above-mentioned tips for a comfortable trip. |
