Important Beach Tent Camping Tips Almost everybody enjoys camping. And they choose various locations for their camping trips. Many choose to camp at local lakes and ponds while other prefer the woods. There are many who will choose a campground that has hiking, swimming, and other facilities and activities available. However many will select the beach for an overwhelming camping experience. People who camp at the beach normally plan their trip around water activities that they thoroughly enjoy, like searching for shells, swimming in the ocean, fishing and surfing. All of these activities involve wide-open spaces for flying kites and the ever popular beach volleyball. Camping at the beach is always a wonderful and exciting experience. However, before you arrive at your beach campsite, there are many preparations that you should remember and never forget to ensure you have a camping holiday to remember rather than regret. And some of these tips will help you have that remarkable experience:
- Try and set up camp in daylight and you’ll avoid unpleasant surprises like ants’ nests.
- Position your tent so you sleep with your head higher than your feet.
- Set up a sun shelter by rigging a tarp off the side of your tent. This is also a good rain shelter, provides extra cooking space and a place to leave gear.
- In case of rain, use a tarp as a second fly. You can also use a tarp underneath your tent as an extra moisture barrier. In heavy rain, dig a small trench on the high side of your tent to divert run-off.
- While camping on a beach, avoid unprotected headlands or sand dunes. Find a sheltered spot out of the wind behind shrubs and trees or in a dune. Pay attention to warning signs about wildlife such as crocodiles or poisonous marine life.
- Write a check-list and tick it off as you pack. A first aid kit is a must-have for any camping trip.
- A door mat is ideal for removing sand and soil before entering the tent.
- Always carry a fuel stove, never rely on wood being available and remember to build your fire on a bed of sand or dirt away from logs or stumps and vegetation.
- Clear away any material that could catch fire and pick a spot downwind so the breeze will blow the smoke away from your tent.
- You can also take a gas or fuel lantern for preparing the evening meal.
- Be careful what you burn. Plastics can give off noxious fumes and aerosols and sealed containers can explode.
- Always remember to put your fire out each night by covering it with sand or dirt or dousing it with water.
