The Grand Teton National Park located south of Yellowstone Park in Wyoming, is one of the most popular tourists spot of the State. The name of the park has an interesting story behind it. The mountain range of Grand Tetons was mistakenly named by a French trapper who felt that some hills in the area of Arco, Idaho resembled the female anatomy. Thus the name Tetons, which means nipples in French, was given to the mountains and later to the park.
The park is considered one of the most picturesque areas in the western United States. While in Teton you can enjoy activities such as camping, biking, climbing, fishing, cross country snow skiing, horseback riding and hiking.
There are 200 miles of hiking trails, which require different levels of hiking skill. No matter how much (or how little!) experienced you are as a hiker, you'll find a trail suitable for you. The diversity of the flora and wildlife is remarkable. There are over 1,000 species of plants within the park and wildlife ranging from see coyotes and moose to red squirrels and black bear, to be seen.
The Grand Tetons display an impressive landscape that have been photographed and painted by some of the world's most famous artists. If you are not artistically inclined, you can try biking, camping or alpining in the park. Besides, some of the best back country and free skiing routes in America can be found in Grand Teton National Park.
With plenty of choices in lodging and restaurants and interesting shops to explore in the surrounding area, your trip is bound to be comfortable, besides of course being memorable. |
